Gone With The Wind

It’s been 20 hours since I become phone-less last night. I am still grieving with the thought that the super early birthday gift that hubby gave me this year is now floating in outer space. And by floating in outer space, I mean I don’t know where it is. If it was stolen or misplaced or just fell out of my jacket last night on my way to buy water at 7-Eleven with hubby – I don’t know. So I would just like to believe that some aliens got it and they brought it out of the Earth with them :)

Funny that hours after I have finally installed iOS 6.0 and hours after I have discovered the panoramic shot, my phone went gone with the wind.

The first and last panoramic shot that I took with my newly installed iOS 6.0

I was hoping that I didn’t brought it out with me last night, because I wasn’t sure if I really brought it, however I didn’t find it at home as well. We tried calling my number and it was ringing until 11:30pm. Not sure if the alien turned it off or it ran out of battery already because it only has 18% of battery life the last time I saw it, which was around 9pm.

As I was still hopeful to find it, I typed “how to find a lost iPhone” on Google and my eyes almost popped out of their sockets. I found out that iPhone is really one of the smartest phone ever invented. It has a Find my iPhone app which can help you track where you unit is. You can also find the “Find my iPhone” at iCloud which allows you to set your phone into lost mode that automatically locks your phone and display a message about where to return it in case it lands in the hands of good people. In case you don’t find it anymore, you can also wipe out all the files and return your phone into its factory setting to prevent the “culprit” from getting your personal data.

So, with all the positivity that I can gather – I logged in to iCloud. There I found out….

that I didn’t set up an iCloud account in my phone!!! What a lucky day!! I always see that iCloud icon in my phone but didn’t bother to be curious about it. Here’s what lack of information, and laziness can do you :(

To other iPhone users out there, I hope you will not suffer the same fate that I’ve had. Pleassee.. pleassee.. read and research. Not only about iPhones but about other safety measures out there that will be beneficial for you and your family’s safety.

I know, iPhones/iPads/iPods are just material things but it wouldn’t hurt if you download the “Find My iPhone app” (here) and read about iCloud (here). I really wish I had known this before I lost my phone. It could have been a big help. Anyhow, the only thing I was able to do was call my network provider to deactivate my line, change the passwords of my Facebook, Mail, Instagram and Twitter account. I was also told that I can report the loss to the National Telecommunication Company but unfortunately I would still have to search the house for the original box to get the IMEI number. Hihi.

Looking at the brighter side, if it was stolen – at least I was spared from the trauma that a colleague of mine experienced when the FX taxi she was in was robbed on her way to her office. I should still be thankful that it’s the only thing that made me a little sad today, unlike our office guard who is grieving with the sudden death of his 56-year-old brother :( Plus there are so many things to be thankful for – my family that’s well and complete, the weekend that's coming, my dinner tonight (I plan to eat Sisig! Keber muna ang cholesterol level ko) etc etc. As they say, there are reasons why things are happening so I will just trust and lift everything to Him. You’ll never know, miracles do happen!

Keep safe friendships :)

P.S. Last night, I dreamed about finding my phone. Funny that in my dreams, I know I was just dreaming. And I was figuring out how to bring the phone from that dream into reality. Haha. Addict!

  1. Marsy, sorry about the loss of your iphone. My eldest was also in the same situation when she lost her 3-week old ipod:(. Nakakagalaiti talaga if you lost your gadget, brand new at that, to some heartless criminals. Yes, you shld really activate your iCloud acct so it will be easy to track it down once misplaced or stolen , or remote-wipe your files. Such a hard lesson to learn. :(

  7. I feel for you! I lost my iPhone 3 months ago, at the MRT, when I was still there in the Philippines. It must have been stolen. I cried when it dawned on me that it would not be returned to me anymore. It has my baby girl's photos and videos since she was 2 months old and I never bothered to transfer all of these onto my computer/hard drive.

I also learned about the find my iphone app too late! Sayang talaga because the phone was a gift from hubby, too.

Lesson learned talaga. But let's be grateful for our other blessings! Smile!

  8. Awww! Sorry for you sis. I was sad din because my phone had many photos of my daughter. Good thing that few days ago, I started forwarding the photos and videos to my email address so may mga na-save pa rin kahit pano. Tama, let us be grateful for other blessings! :)

  12. I tried iCloud today, and I found out that your that you must turn on your iPhone 3G para ma-locate nya yung device. The problem is hindi naman madalas naka open ung 3G kasi mabilis maka drain ng battery, I guess that's the downside.

  13. That was one of my concerns before why I didn't activate my iCloud. But looking at what happened to me, I think the running out of battery easy is worth it :)
