My Kimukatsu Experience

I love everything Japanese, especially the food. My top favorite would be sashimi, salmon to be specific, but I am not much a fan of katsu hence I was a late bloomer with the Japanese katsu craze recently.

However, one date night, hubs brought me to dinner at Kimukatsu in Century City Mall. He was there a few days ago with his friends and he'd been telling me to try it out also.

Kimukatsu is famous for its high quality tonkatsu made from a combination of a crispy, texture-rich batter surrounding a juicy flavorful 25-layered select pork cutlet. The menu comes with seven Tonkatsu flavors, a premium Tonkatsu line, different side dishes and desserts.

All tonkatsu sets are served with unlimited Japanese rice, miso soup (another favorite!), Japanese pickels and cabbage salad.

I just had one serving of cabbage salad but two bowls of miso soup. Yum!
Hubs had cheese tonkatsu on his first visit so he ordered garlic tonkatsu this time for a new experience. He was swearing by the cheese tonkatsu so I had it for myself :)

One of the things I love about this dining experience is the availability of different sauces to try out.

And the crushing of sesame seeds added more fun :-)

Crushed sesame seeds are designed to be added to the tonkatsu sauce for a richer flavor. I sprinkled it to my plain cabbage salad, together with the roasted sesame sauce, and loved it.

The garlic tonkatsu was okay but both hubs and I agreed, as cheese lovers, that the cheese tonkatsu tastes better. The melted cheese blended well with the pork cutlet and we were in heaven on every bite! I also love that the cheese wasn't too salty, the tonkatsu was actually looking deep fried outside, but amazingly juicy inside.

I also ordered Soy Cotta for dessert. I always love anything soy but this one I will definitely pass next time. The soy flavor was weak for me that I felt like it was just a regular sweetened gelatin. And also considering the serving size, the price of this is just too much. I don't know, maybe it's just me :)

  1. New katsu place to try. I tried Yabu and Saboten pa lang. But I'm more of a ramen girl than katsu. Makakarami din siguro ako ng miso soup :)
