What Daughters Can Make Their Dads Do

They say daughters are more fond of their Daddies and I have to say I didn't agree at first. The first three years of my life was spent without a father figure. Few months after I was born, Papa left us in a convent while he works abroad. I grew up with nuns and Mama so I am more maka-Nanay.

But my daughter is proving me the validity of the saying. Recently, Lia is becoming sweeter and sweeter -- much more to her Dad. She loves Mama and me but she adores her Daydi. I can tell even by the way she calls him, so soft, so gentle, so loving and so sweet like you can see flowers and candies coming out of her mouth every time she says the two syllables. Hence, the Dad is always swept away. Always willing to do whatever the little princess asks.

Recently, she discovered the joy of playing horsey-horsey. Whether or not he's still in his office clothes, Daydi always oblige with the little girl's plea. How can he not be, after she does the trick  -- the magic word "Daydi" and some little sweet kisses on his lips :) She will call him "hoss" (horse), will push him  and then she will ride on his back like a princess.

They also like to play boxing, with the little girl squealing in delight every time hubby acts surprised by her punches. And oh, they always play ball too! Basketball, soccer -- so boyish! But they cuddle like bears, kiss like birds and laugh like angels. I love them both!

**********

My love, decades from now your Dad will be old (and me too pala, but don't worry about me because I am so much younger than your Dad). By the time he is weak and gray, I hope you'll remember how he carries you in his back, how he made you laugh and how he let you call him "hoss". If he can no longer play ball with you because his bones are brittle, please remember to plant kisses on his forehead and never forget that this old man treated you like a princess so you shouldn't settle with a guy who will treat you less than a queen.

Writing on behalf of my one true love (your Dad),

Momme

  1. What a touching post! Lia seems to be so fond of her Daydi. Little girls really have that special bond with their fathers noh? And I had no idea you spent your first three years in a convent! Trivia yun ha! :-)

  3. Aw, I love this post, Mars. Oh but wait til you have a boy. Lucas is sweeter to me. If the three of us are in the room and Dadi leaves, he waves byebye. But when I leave, he cries. I guess ganun talaga yun. :)

What a truly beautiful post! So full of love, and your words gave me goosebumps :) I guess I am a sucker for love! How precious, and how wonderful a way of documenting her childhood. Keep it so she can read it all when she grows up!

  7. Oh I'm a Papa's girl too! Even though I grew up without him I'm still a Papa's girl. Ewan ko ba, weird pero that's true. Si Cyler naman is mommy's girl he's more malambing and clingy to me, gusto nya parati akong nasa tabi nya even while watching TV. And when he see me busy with something else, hahatakin nya ko somewhere else para ma-divert attention ko sakanya. Hehe
