I’ve been M.I.A. these past few days ever since my daughter got hospitalized. Yes, my 16-month old little girl is confined at the hospital since Tuesday night :(
It was a regular Tuesday, that day when Lia turned 16-months. Things went craaaazy after I received a call from my super worried Momma at around 3-ish in the afternoon, telling me to go home soon because we need to rush Lia to the hospital. She said the little girl hasn’t been eating since she woke up that morning and that she’s been vomiting anything that comes into her tummy.
Hubby and I rushed home and were welcomed by a sad and lethargic baby. No energy at all. She was resting her head on Mama’s shoulder, never gave us a smile and just looked at our happy faces. She was still vomiting.
We arrived at Asian Hospital after thirty minutes. To my surprise, my little girl who can barely stand when we left home, suddenly got energetic upon the sight of other kids. She wanted to run and play. Since we are in no position to disappoint her in the midst of her vomiting, we let her run while vomiting on the ER floor once in a while :(
The ER was not so crowded, but there were very few attendants available. I even had to complain with one of the nurses that my daughter has been vomiting twice already since we arrive and no one has looked after her yet. It was the very opposite of all the good things I’ve heard about Asian. Probably just our luck!
Lia was given an IV for hydration. Continuous vomiting is very dangerous especially for babies/toddlers and her urinalysis already showed that she’s already dehydrated. Her vomit was already yellowish, which means there is nothing more in her tummy that she can take out. If it persisted, her vomit will become greenish already which is very dangerous (Mommies, take note!)
Proud mommy moments again that day, my daughter didn’t even cry when she was pricked for the IV. Nor with the extraction of her blood sample. She just lay on the bed, quietly observing things around her. I directed her face to mine so she won’t see anything other than Mommy’s face while the IV is being inserted to her veins. I told the nurse to be careful, and to make sure that there won’t be any second trial.
My little brave little girl just looked at Mommy’s face, with her reddish eyes and nose. After the IV was inserted, a tear fell out of her right eye but she did not make any noise at all. Parang si Juday lang :)
Mama was so scared, she was shivering. On the other hand, I was brave. I did not feel any fear. Just like my brave little girl. Mama said she used to be so strong, like me, when I used to be so small and frequent at the hospital. Now, we have got a concrete proof that Grandparents love their grandkids more. Hehe.
We stayed at the ER till 12nn the next day because all rooms were occupied that night. God is so good, it was only Lia who was at that particular Primary Care room where we stayed so hubby and I got to tuck ourselves in the other ER bed in that room.

Fast forward to today, Lia is still confined at Asian Hospital. She was diagnosed with gastroenteritis. Bored as she is, with her left hand tied to her IV, she loves sharing flying kisses to her nurses and doctors. She loves receiving visitors and gladly welcomes them into her room with her signature smile and wave. She has also learned to be more creative in doing things with an injured left hand – doing peek-a-boo, playing with the iPad and coloring with only one hand.
She’s becoming hyperactive again, jumping up and down on her hospital bed while laughing and giggling at her jumping reflection at the mirror. She has started to eat slowly and Dr. Saulog said that we may be able to go out tonight or tomorrow morning!! Which means, we’ll miss her first ever Level 3 class at Gymbo, and our play date with Luke, Aki, Akira and Raviv this weekend :(
Anyhow, we are not rushing things. As what Dr. Saulog have said also, she wants to make sure that Lia is well before she let us go.
